Letter from the Museum President

August 2017

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of the Museum, I would like to welcome you to our new website. We hope you like it! It has been a busy year for the Dallas Firefighter’s Museum. Every day we learn in new ways how Dallas firefighters have touched the lives of Dallas citizens. We welcome children, families, seniors and Dallas firefighters and their families every day. We welcome firefighters from other cities and around the world.

Our mission continues to drive our work in 2017 as it has from our inception: “…teach fire safety, honor fallen heroes of the Department and preserve firefighting heritage.”

Summer has been busy for our Curators at the Museum as they have welcomed and toured hundreds of children in summer day camps through the Museum – children have come from across the city – and from surrounding cities in North Texas. Our Curators share their messages of safety, stories of what it’s like to be a firefighter, all while answering dozens of questions a day! You can see children’s smiling faces and beautiful artwork and even answers to what they learned throughout the new site.

Fall will be equally as busy, as we join with other nonprofits for this annual online fundraising campaign, North Texas Giving Day, on September 14, 2017. The event, founded by the Communities Foundation of Texas, allows donors to go online and donate to their favorite causes in North Texas for one day-6 AM – Midnight. This is the first year the Museum has participated. We are excited about the potential opportunity to introduce the Museum and our safety messages to more children, families and seniors across North Texas as a result of generous people supporting the Museum. Please look for more information on the website very soon or follow our Facebook page.

Join us, again, this year for FireFest2017 on September 23, from 10 AM to 4 PM. If you’ve come to the two previous FireFest events, you’ll know how fun they can be. You’ll find this year’s FireFest, under the leadership of Lt. Mike Otto and his team, have gone above and beyond to ensure that messages of safety and a lot of fun for all ages, will be the order of the day. Join us September 23 from 10 AM until 4 PM.

Check out the FireFest section of our new website for all the details—you don’t want to miss the Bounce house/slide in the shape of a fire engine and ladder!

Thank you for all you do to make the Dallas Firefighter’s Museum a strong part of the community.

Sincerely,

Trixie G. Lohrke
